That all changed because of Queen Elizabeth II. She had received a pair of diamond earrings as a wedding present in 1947 and had her ears items so she could put on them. Pierced ears grew in popularity after that and now, it’s common for even children to have pierced ears. In the 1900s, earring types turned more modern than ever with the invention of clip-on and screwback designs. This allowed folks with out pierced ears to wear earrings. By the 1940s, it wasn’t a typical follow for women to get their ears pierced.
